Scratching your musical itch

Tuesday Quicky: Wilco, Aerogramme, Pool Party, Secret Machines…

I didn’t have much time today, so a quick scan of the news reveals the following of interest:

-Aerogramme have parted ways. The Scottish rock band has decided that the band can no longer exist citing reasons being “the never-ending financial struggle coupled with an almost superhuman ability to dodge the zeitgeist”. Whatever that means??

-Wilco’s ‘Sky Blue Sky’ went on sale today, and although most of us already own a leaked copy, it deserves a tip of the hat as I think that it showcases some of the bands best work to date. Don’t get me wrong, there are some lulls in the recording that lose me, but there are gems and jewels that shine with some extraordinary production and ‘Impossible Germany’ is the shine in my respects. Definitely some of the best work that these guys have produced, so buy it!

-Superchunk has joined the list of bands to perform at this years production of the Pool Parties @ McClarren Park in Brooklyn. I previously reported the discovery of this unique event that takes place over the course of the summer in Brooklyn @ McClarren Park, and my curiosity has me waning for a trip to NY.

-Not really news, but I just spent a couple of hours on the road today well spent wallowing in the sounds of the most recent release from Blonde Redhead ’23′, and I have come to conclusion that it is a brilliant piece of work. I could not find the energy to pull the cd out of the cd player even after it had made it’s first way through, and the second turn was even more revealing than the first. The composition of the songs paired with the smeared vocals over the exotic musical landscape methodically accented with unique sound quirks that this trio produces is nothing less than mind-boggling at times. This is one of the years sweetest treats as of yet, and I have a feeling that this will be the year for Blonde Redhead.

Secret Machines schedule 2nd show in Brooklyn that takes place two days before playing David Bowie’s Highline Festival. The venue is the Annex, the date is 5.17 and you can buy tickets HERE. Originally a three piece until the fairly recent departure of Benjamin Curtis, it appears as the remaining two members Brandon Curtis and Josh Garza are still in play with no plans of shutting down the Machines for any long period of time.
