New Built To Spill Dubbin It Horsie Style

built-to-spill.jpg

Those guys in Built To Spill, whom I’m still trying to forgive for not bringing their basketball playing butts down to Texas on the current tour, just set loose a couple of interesting new tracks for our listening enjoyment(?). Sounds like the band is tooling around with some new sounds, and being a fan of the guys, I’m not sure about new territory they are breaching. ‘They Got Away’ sounds like a page torn from the Clash’s Combat Rock diary with a reggae dub feel to it, and Stereogum nailed the Band of Horses resemblance on ‘Rearrange’ with the harmonizing vocals and a slow meandering melody. I hope that this isn’t a development of another reason to be disappointed with Built to Spill.

Judge for yourself, and any comments would be greatly appreciated.

They Got Away is great….. Great players doing reggae. How can you go wrong.

Rearrange is boring. Just like Band of Horses. They bore me to the point I had to actually give there record away to a friend of mine. Not that it was shit it just wasn’t anything…. Kind of like this song. I heard BTS play it in Toronto 2 weeks ago. I took a piss 1/2 through it.

Rearrange is a cover of a Gladiators song.

Doug also wants fans to know that this is not the future sound of Built To Spill, but rather that “They Got Away” came out of jamming and they liked it too much to not record it.

They played and recorded both They Got Away and Rearrange during their “You in Reverse” tour last year.
