Scratching your musical itch

You Should Be Ashamed: Love Your Radiohead

radiohead_thom.jpg

An Internet research group, ComScore, has released a report that, quite frankly has me a little disappointed in music fans around the world. According to the report, only 38% of the users that downloaded In Rainbows with a “choose your own price” option, paid for the download at an average of $6. 38, are you kidding me? According to the report, I’m in the 4% of the consumers who paid more than $12 for the download. One of the biggest bands in the world, adored by many around the globe, takes a chance with it’s fans while bucking the system that has been screwing the fans around for years, and this is the love they get?? You should be ashamed of yourself. Maybe I have underestimated what it means to be a fan these days. I support the bands I love, because I am a fan, and supporting the bands that I love is a big reason I started this blog. Sure I throw out the mp3s for download, but only in hopes that it encourages you to attend the shows, buy the records and misc garb that keeps these bands putting out the music that I love. This one makes the what the f***! category for sure. Thanks guys.

Look Thom in the face and tell him you’re sorry. And no mp3 cookie for you this time!

Why should I have paid more than $8 for a digital download when I’m going to turn around and buy the physical CD? I’m sure a lot of the people who actually paid are in the same boat.

Why would you pay more than $12 for a digital download? Especially when it is at a less than desirable bit rate.

I appreciate the fact that you are going to buy the physical cd, and that is my usual course of action, so my comments are not directed at folks like you. The whole bit rate thing is an entirely different discussion that I’m not sure that I would benefit from. I read the complaints early on about the quality, but I can’t say that I would be able to distinguish between the different options. I have always been a believer in the idea that “your stereo is only as good as the music that you play on it”. I’m just happy to have the music sometimes.

I paid 2 bux including all the charges.
I have purchased EVERY cd and have seen them 3 times.
That is a shit ton of money.

I save my bux for the local bands who have no dough.

Radiohead bypassed the record companies, the distributors. Normally, they must make a dollar off of every major label CD they sell. If I paid $2 for the download – they STILL come out ahead.

I think I paid $3. But like Dan, I’ve purchased all their CD’s, Thom Yorke’s solo, and bought a T-shirt when I saw them live (paying for my ticket).

why would anyone pay money for that crap? someone would have to pay me to listen to radiohead. what what WHAT is their appeal??? radiohead is boring, pretentious pop music that isn’t even catchy like actual pop music. and that singer has such a god-awful whiney voice. just the thought of listening to karma police makes me want to vomit.
