2007 saw the first release from Dinosaur Jr in ten years, and the first release from the original lineup in almost 20 years. Kinda makes me feel old. J Mascis, Lou Barlow, and Murph (all original members) reunited in 2005, without the encouragement of a Coachella invitation, and released the first studio album together since 1988′s Bug. Mascis continued on without original founders Murph and Barlow for years after their departure, securing the band as one of the more recognizable and unique sounds from the 90′s.
Now with Beyond, a solid effort to support the return, the band hits the road, and for those of us with fond memories of the band the chance to see the band live again is both exciting and curious. J Mascis, according to memory, is an amazing guitar player both recorded and live, but does he still have it? It has been awhile, but chances are the show is going to be everything I expect, loud, heavy, and full of that J Mascis unique style.
You notice the Marshall stack in the photo? Shit’s gonna be loud.
If I get the chance, I may need to talk to J Mascis about his collaboration with Mew on their last album. Makes me feel funny.
