Tobacco, Indie Rock, & My Dilemma Update

Hopefully some of you read my post about Camel and it’s involvement in the “indie” rock scene with it’s “The Farm” project, that has the tobacco giant promoting bands through promotion and involvement in shows. It has become an issue with me, as I’m torn as to how I really feel about this pairing of a tobacco giant and my beloved rock music. I just recently read some follow-up reports to the original, and the allegations that R.J. Reynolds violated the cartoon ban in cigarette advertising has moved 9 states attorney generals to file suits against the company. R.J. Reynolds has since halted the Camel “The Farm” project and potentially faces up to $100 million dollars in fines.
The Daily Swarm has put together a very detailed report on this entire subject even going so far as to suggest that this recent action by attorney generals, could open the door for the bands whose names were used, to file suit as well. I urge you to read this very interesting look at was has become a bigger issue than originally anticipated.
