A Do512 sponsored Event: Dan Deacon/Ultimate Reality/When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth @ Emos’ Jr. Friday 1.11.08

I’m going to go out on a limb here and recommend that this show is going to be an interesting, if anything, experience. Going out on a limb simply because my interest in music usually revolves guitar heavy rock, but I get the occasional bug to indulge in some electronic jams settling into reliving a good part of my youth. With Justice making the splash on the scene, and Dan Deacon being quite the buzzworthy blog constant, now seems an appropriate time for that indulgence.

Now, I’m not going to claim to be a big Dan Deacon fan, but I can’t deny that my interest has been prodded to the point where I have to see what this guy is all about. There is something strangely curious about this unassuming character who creates this beautiful mess of spaced out, abstract, electronic, Future Shock. I believe that the person responsible for Dan Deacon’s Wikipedia page may have created the Future Shock genre, as I cannot find a true definition. Something else I find interesting, is that Deacon completed his graduate studies in electro-acoustic and computer composition @ the Conservatory of Music @ Purchase College.

Back to the curiosity. I’m itchin to watch this guy put all of this weird and wacked out music into play in the live setting with Deacon settling in with all of his tools and contraptions, and creating. And like I said before, if anything, it should be interesting, and for me will be a nice change to sit back and soak in the workings of some wild, sound manipulating, mad scientist.

Dan Deacon’s Ultimate Reality tour touches down @ Emo’s Friday 1.11.08. The show will begin with a set from Ultimate Reality which will feature a screening of the Ultimate Reality DVD accompanied by two drummers, Kevin O’Meara (Video Hippos) and Jeremy Hyman (Ponytail) followed by the Dan Deacon set. The Ultimate Reality DVD is a collaboration between Deacon and Baltimore visual artist Jimmy Joe Roche – Deacon provided the music and Roche the visuals.
