The Austinist rumored it, and Austin360.com confirms, the mighty R.E.M are slotted to perform at this year’s SXSW Festival. The band will be playing a handful of live dates before it’s 14th recorded release Accelerate comes legal on April 1. R.E.M. have failed to be extremely successful with any of it’s most recent releases, including the most recent Oct 2007 release of Live, which fell completely off of the radar from the beginning. Aside from slagging sales, the live show still draws much interest from this young fella, as it was witnessed at a past ACL Festival years ago and still remains a favorite performance from recent years past.
