Scratching your musical itch

Monolith Festival 2008 Preview

A friend of mine and I were discussing the other day, the positives and negatives of the music festival experience as we are in the midst of festival season. For the average music fan, festivals are a great opportunity to take a few days to experience as much of what’s going on in the music scene and see a bunch of bands in a short amount of time. For me, it’s more about the possibility of experiencing a different city or venue, the opportunity to catch those few bands that haven’t made their way to my city as of recent, and catching up with other folks in the industry who I’ve met over the years. The appeal of Monolith is 1) it’s being held in one of the most legendary and beautiful venues in the world, Red Rocks Amphitheatre and 2) the lineup isn’t too shabby. I’m not a huge fan of the monster size stages you find at most festivals, and Monolith looks to be providing plenty of opportunity to experience some of the artists on smaller stages. Unfortunately in 2007, Monolith went head to head with the local ACL Festival, and you know I have to stay true to the local. This year, not the case.

With just 36 days left until this year’s Monolith Festival taking place @ Red Rocks Amphitheater Septemeber 13th and 14th, I start my preview with more to come in the weeks ahead with previews of the artists that I’m looking forward to catching at the festival.
