Scratching your musical itch

Itch Picks Wed & Thur: Lions, Toadies, UME, & Shearwater

Wednesday and Thursday are to be quite busy for us here @ Sonic Itch Music with 4 bands on the agenda within 24. You gotta love Austin, TX and the music options that seem endless at times.

Lions

Prepare yourself for an all out rock-n-roll guitar assault on Wednesday with our friends Lions setting the stage for a 3 night stint @ Stubbs for The Toadies. Both Wed and Thur shows are sold out, but I believe that there are tickets still available for the 3rd show on Friday. Stubb’s, being a venue that abides by our cities sound ordinances, should have things wrapped up early enough for you to make your way down the block to Emo’s Lounge for this week’s 101X Homegrown live show that features one of our favorite locals, UME. The band has new recorded material nearing the point of completion, and you can bet they will be previewing some of this material live tonight. I hear from an inside source that the new sounds are pretty darn good.

UME

Switch gears a bit on Thursday and head down to Mohawk for the sweet sounds of the Jonathan Meiburg fronted Shearwater. Earlier in the year Meiburg parted ways with Okkervil River to focus on this project, and the music world is a better place. Two great bands out of Austin, making waves around the world. Shearwater’s 2008 release Rook is almost destined to make a multitude of year end lists, and is one of the most beautiful pieces of recorded material to see daylight this year. I pause while typing this post to savor the sounds as it plays over the stereo.
