Itch Pick: The Walkmen @ The Parish Fri. 10.10

Up until recently, I believed that I knew more about The Walkmen that I actually did. I do remember the single “The Rat” being a favorite musical slice of mine for awhile, and I know that I was listening to other tracks from these guys, but obviously not close enough.
My realization of what little I knew about these guys from New York and their sound became evident when I put on the most recent release You and Me. The sounds are more understated and almost classic feeling, while the album tracks like postcards from modern day nostalgia. The bands affinity for more classic instruments breathes a heavy breath into songs that could easily be written about any person or place in the world, and the relationship between either, passed. I have become completely intrigued by this recording and it could easily be one of my favorites of this year.
The Walkmen play The Parish on Friday night, with The Little Ones offering up a helping of lighter fare to start the evening.
