Get To Know In 7: Twin Tigers & Dead Confederate
For those of you not familiar, Get To Know In 7 is a quick 7 question interview that I come up on the spot when I have the opportunity to chat with a member of a band. Usually a band that I’m really digging at the time, and the questions aren’t the usual interview questions. Sure they might seem a little simple and dumb, but the answers can be interesting. I had the opportunity to present the 7 to both members of Twin Tigers and Dead Confederate, two bands that hail from Athen’s GA, when they were in town for Fun Fun Fun Fest a few weeks back.

AM: Blue
SIM: What would you have for your last meal, food and drink?
AM: I eat like I child so, chicken nuggets, sweet potato fries, and a chocolate milkshake.
SIM: If you could be an animal or creature?
AM: Giraffe..I left out creature as an option, can I be a Pegasus? Pegasus.
SIM: Person dead or alive that you would like to meet?
After much deliberation, an offer for a lifeline from vocalist Matthew Rain….
AM: I was going to say Ann Sexton, but that would be really gay. Let’s go with someone really crazy, Dimebag Darrell.

AM: Dirty

SIM: What would you have for your last meal, food and drink?
MR: Last drink would be a Coca Cola Classic, last meal, probably a Golden Bowl from the Grit in Athen’s with a little cheese and broccoli in it.
SIM: If you could be an animal or creature?
MR: Well, if panda’s weren’t so lazy about being sexual, I would be a panda, so I’m going to go with a tiger.
SIM: Person dead or alive that you would like to meet?
MR: John Lennon

SIM: Favorite color?
BS: Black, look at me, I’m an obsessed black fan. Everything I own is black and it’s not because I’m at a funeral, I just find it sexy in so many ways. The lack of color to me is beautiful. Wait..that’s white. The fullness of color to me is so beautiful.
SIM: What would you have for your last meal, food and drink?
BS: Ruby’s BBQ at Fun Fun Fun Fest with a Miller High Life
SIM: If you could be an animal or creature?
BS: Creature? Animal sounds safe, but creature sounds like I could fuck some shit up. Beast. I’m hairy so beast is probably the best option.
SIM: Person dead or alive that you would like to meet?
BS: Roger Waters. Roger Waters is probably my favorite musician of all time. Because he’s an asshole and he gets it. To be that confident in your art and not give a shit. The art has always come first.
SIM: Must own record/album?
BS: The Stooges Fun House.
SIM: Most excited about ____ @ Fun Fun Fun Fest?
BS: Free booze, that’s easy.
SIM: One word to describe yourself today..
BS: Drunk

HM: Army green. Army green makes sense, and it’s the coolest fucking color. Tell me anything cooler.
SIM: Black
HM: No, black and white are not colors
SIM: Blue
HM: Blue’s not a cool color. It’s a good color, actually it’s a cool color, but I would have to say that army green is the coolest color.
SIM: What would you have for your last meal, food and drink?
HM: Butter beans. I would eat butter beans and probably water. Water because you don’t know what it takes to get there.
SIM: Water?
HM: You never know what it takes to get where you are going and water makes people go.
SIM: If you could be an animal or creature?
HM: Bird for sure, it’s pretty obvious. Small bird, maybe a duck. I was noticing this awhile back that geese are birds that are completely comfortable in flight. Land on water and totally comfortable on water. And you see a goose on land, just cruising around. There’s not many animals that are that comfortable in that many places. Geese, I think have been around a long time. I’d be a goose.
SIM: Person dead or alive that you would like to meet?
HM: I would love to meet John Prine. Cool motherfucker.
SIM: Must own record/album?
HM: Desire by Bob Dylan. That’s a must have on vinyl for anybody.
SIM: Most excited about ____ @ Fun Fun Fun Fest?
HM: Jesus Lizard, and it was fucking ridiculous. It was so good.
SIM: One word to describe yourself today..
HM: You said one word, so I can’t say tie dyed. Hippie. I am a hippie

With a population of 113,ooo + Athen’s, GA is producing some great music and had a fine showing at this year’s Fun Fun Fun Fest with Dead Confederate, Twin Tigers, and Of Montreal.
Twin Tigers debut full-length Grey Waves drops March 2nd 2010, and if you haven’t checked out this band, I highly, highly recommend to do so soon.
Dead Confederate will be releasing live recording sometime soon, and will also be entering the studio sometime around Feb of 2010 for their follow-up to 2008′s Wrecking Ball.
